We are Foster Parents!
To cats......
Let's begin at the beginning. In late mid-August, I read an article about a house in Albany that got condemned and there were 90+ cats in the house (the number changes....I have heard anywhere from 96 to 88 cats). The article can be found here and here. I read the article and tucked the info away in my head.
I have been wanting to volunteer somewhere for something but with my job and my need to be connected all the time, I couldn't commit to anything because I just never know what is going to happen at work. It is unfair for me to commit my time when I may not be able to follow through. I thought that fostering would be a good way to volunteer my time and money without have to be somewhere at a specific date/time.
After Zoe passed away , I really started to look around for a fostering opportunity. I didn't really know how to get started or who to even ask. I searched the Orange Street Cats website to check the status of the animals and I noticed a "Cats the need to be fostered page". There was my in.... Of course I discussed all this with G first. I was pretty sure that he would support me (and he did....let's face it....he loves these cats too!).
We decided that one or two cats would work for us. OSC had two cats that were cage buddies so we decided to take them.
I spent a few days prepping the guest room with cats beds, toys, litter box, and bowls. On Friday, 9/24, I met Iris (an OSC volunteer) and she handed the cats over.
Their names are Gracie (yes...a second Gracie) and Chance. Both females...Gracie looks to be less than 2 years old. Chance could possibly be 3 or 4 years old. I don't have pics yet....hoping to soon.
More to come on our Fostering adventure!
