I have been pretty lax about reading lately. I don’t know if it is my attention span or lack of interest or what. I am trying to get back into it because vacation is coming up and I need to be in the reading groove!
I have raved in the past about the author Jen Lancaster. My last post about her (which was in January!) indicated that I had requested her first book, “Bitter is the new Black”, from the library. Well….in June….I was still waiting for it and there was a shit load of people still ahead of me. So, I broke down and bought it. I think waiting 6 months was enough….don’t you? Anyway, as I was perusing Amazon, I saw that she has a new book out called “Pretty in Plaid”. Yup! Ordered that too! (In all fairness, I did check the waiting list at the library first….). These 2 new books are sitting, waiting for vacation to show up so they can be read.
In the meantime, I am trying out the author Laurie Notaro. She wrote New York Times bestseller “The Idiot Girls Action-Adventure Club”. I loved it! So I requested some of her other books (from the library):
1. “Autobiography of a Fat Bride: True Tales of a Pretend Adulthood”- just finished
2. “I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies): True Tales of a Loudmouth Girl
3. “There's a (Slight) Chance I Might Be Going to Hell: A Novel of Sewer Pipes, Pageant Queens, and Big Trouble”
Why do I like books like this? Well, one….they are DAMN funny and I need a little funny in my life. Two, each chapter is a different story so it fits right into my current attention span problem. Three, on some levels I can relate to the stories. The books that have me laughing until I am crying is a good indicator that something similar has happened to me (or someone I know).
I don’t know if there is a formal name for this genre of literature, but I sure do like it y’all!
