I don’t miss travelling for work. I don’t miss it at all. When I was younger and single, I could handle it. The long hours, the constant eating out, the no life…..Now….there is no way. I was either driving 2 to 3 hours to a client (one way), working a full 8 plus hours and then driving home OR I was driving to Long Island and staying for 4 to 5 days. Once I got engaged, I was done with that life and I never want to go back.
This past week, I spent a week in New Jersey with a colleague at a class. The class was great. You would think that I would have been happy to be away….away from the daily grind of work. I wasn’t away from work though, that is what sucked.
Typically, these classes allow you to connect to the internet to check email and such. This particular facility did not allow that so all I had was Precious. I had her on silent and only checked during breaks and lunch. There was often 10 to 20 emails that I had to deal with. I won’t lie….I did a lot of correspondence while in the bathroom (don’t judge, I only had 10 minute breaks!).
Before I left, I told one of the bosses that he would have to correspond with a vendor while I was gone….he said “That is why we pay for you to have a Blackberry”. Seriously?!?!?!? Then what did you just pay $4000.00 for a class if all you really want me to do is stare at the damn Blackberry?!?!?! (I am not mad at you Precious!).
Anyway….class ended at 5:00 pm everyday. Then, I went back to the hotel and worked 3 to 6 hours per night…on a wicked slow internet connection! No breaks for me. That isn’t true…
My father met me for dinner on Monday night. That was nice! We went to a great place called the Rock Chimney Inn…or was it the Chimney Rock Inn? Either way…the food was good.

Other than that?.....Work Work Work. Thursday night, I was all ready to go to bed, laptop shut down and put away. I made the mistake of checking Precious for email one last time and I got an email to check a support site because one of my logs was updated. These emails never tell you what the update is. Sometimes, I have to send in a Change request, sometimes I have to answer a question, and sometimes I have to do nothing. I never know until I log in. So, I drag out the laptop and I couldn’t get my wireless to connect. It took four re-boots and a bunch of swear words. Finally, I get on to the support site and the log update was that it was closed. GRRRRRRRR. I could have waited until Friday morning to check it but if I had, it would have been an urgent change request. No winning for me.
I am happy to be home. I missed my husband. I missed my cats. I missed my fast internet. My stomach is getting back to normal and I am weaning myself from Precious (not too much though!)
What I did this past week….I used to do all the time. All the time! I do not miss it.
